The parish is only a few miles from the thriving town of Ashford, yet is largely rural, comprising the village itself and extending as far as Tutt Hill to the west and Sandyhurst Lane to the east. First mentioned in a Saxon document in the ninth century Westwell is a picturesque, small settlement at the foot of the North Downs in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by farmland and woodland. The centre of the village is a Conservation area, with many listed buildings and ancient trees close to St Mary's Church. The parish hall and playing field, and The Wheel Inn, with its leafy beer garden, are also in the village centre. To take a virtual tour click here

Further afield is the 18th century Hare & Hounds Pub, located on the corner of Sandyhurst Lane and the A20, Maidstone Road, and the Woolpack Kent, Beefeater Restaurant & Hotel further along the A20 towards Charing.

Just north of the village, the ancient Pilgrims' Way to Canterbury passes across the Downs, and remains a popular and scenic hiking route.

As well as being of historic, recreational and environmental interest, the parish is a busy, thriving community with many local groups. It has fantastic transport links to London and Europe, with the M20 (J9), the A20, the High Speed train to London in 38 mins and the Eurostar international rail service easily accessible from nearby Ashford.
